THE FUND set up for Alvechurch teenager Andy Perrygrove, who was severely injured in a road accident in the village, has already raised well over £10,000.
An open meeting was held in November and a committee of friends is co-ordinating the Andy’s
Fund appeal, which has brought offers of help from villagers across the area. A committee spokeswoman told The Village: “On behalf of Andy’s family, we would like to say a big thank you to anyone who has made any donation, sponsored an event, or put money in collection boxes put around village.
“We have raised £10,000 and many events are still to come.”
A website has been set up at www.andysfund.org which will feature details of events and minutes of meetings. The next open meeting for anyone interested in finding out how to help is being held upstairs at the Red Lion, Alvechurch, on March 9 at 7.30pm.
Among the fundraising events so far was a sponsored head-shave at The Swan pub, Alvechurch, when regular John McCarthy had his locks lopped, raising £1,000.
Sponsored magic tricks by the pub landlord’s son, Christian Fletcher, at the event and over Christmas boosted the total by another £200.
Alvechurch Morris Men are donating the £239 raised from vil-lagers watching their New Year’s Day Mummer’s Play outside The Crown at Withybed.
Among the many events planned is a cabaret night at Alvechurch Sports and Social Club on April 21 (£5 per ticket).
A high-quality curry night, with charity auction, is also being organised, and on January 29 villagers Andy Cramp and Dave Hodgins took part in The Tough Guy Challenge, with all sponsorship proceeds going to the fund.
